Care at every age
What to watch for, and when a visit helps. General guidance in plain words, not a diagnosis.
-
Baby first tooth to 3
Wipe the gums and first teeth with a soft cloth or a tiny brush. A first check-up around the first birthday is a good habit.
Watch for: white or brown spots near the gums, milk bottles at bedtime.
-
Child 3 to 12
Milk teeth start falling out at about 6. They still matter: they hold space for the adult teeth.
Watch for: black spots, a swollen cheek, new teeth coming in behind old ones.
-
Teen 13 to 19
Most adult teeth are in. Crooked teeth can be checked now. Sweet drinks and snacking add up.
Watch for: crowded teeth, bleeding gums, a chipped front tooth.
-
Adult 20 to 59
A check-up and cleaning every 6 to 12 months catches small problems while they are small.
Watch for: gums that bleed, pain with cold or sweet, a back tooth (wisdom tooth) that aches.
-
Elder 60 and over
Many medicines make the mouth dry, which speeds up decay. Dentures need a daily clean and a yearly check.
Watch for: loose teeth, sore spots under dentures, trouble chewing.
Treatments, in plain words
Usual dental care. Some items are taken from the clinic’s Justdial listing; please call to confirm what is done here.
Marked for: Adult.

Ask about thisCheck-up
The dentist looks at each tooth with a small mirror and checks your gums. You leave knowing what needs care now and what can wait.
-
Ask about thisCleaning
Removes tartar (the hard yellow layer that a toothbrush can’t shift) and surface stains. It often helps bleeding gums settle.
-
Ask about thisTooth-coloured fillings
A hole in a tooth (a cavity) is cleaned and filled with material matched to your tooth’s shade, so it doesn’t show. Listed on Justdial.
-
Ask about thisRoot canal
When the soft inside of a tooth (the nerve) is infected, it causes deep, throbbing pain. The dentist cleans out the inside and seals it, which saves the tooth instead of taking it out. An X-ray shows how far it has gone.
-
Ask about thisGum care
Bleeding when you brush, swollen gums, bad breath or teeth that start to feel loose are signs of gum disease. A cleaning and the right way of brushing often turn it around. Justdial lists gum treatment and laser dentistry here; ask what suits you.
-
Ask about thisTooth removal
For a tooth that can’t be saved, or a wisdom tooth (the last tooth at the back) that keeps hurting. The area is numbed first.
-
Ask about thisCrowns and bridges
A crown is a cap that covers a weak or broken tooth so you can chew on it again. A bridge fills a gap by joining a new tooth to the teeth on either side.
-
Ask about thisChildren’s teeth
Check-ups, fillings for milk teeth and help with brushing. Justdial also lists this clinic for children with special needs; call to talk it through first.
Dentures and missing teeth have their own section below, in larger type.
Dentures and missing teeth, explained for elders
दादा-दादी, नाना-नानी के लिए, आसान शब्दों में।
I have lost one or two teeth. What can be done?
There are three usual ways to fill a gap:
- A bridge: a new tooth fixed to the teeth on either side. It stays in.
- A partial denture: a small plate with one or more teeth that you take out to clean.
- An implant: a small metal post placed in the jawbone that holds a new tooth. Ask whether this clinic offers it.
The dentist will check your gums and the teeth around the gap before suggesting one.
I have lost most of my teeth.
A full denture is a complete set of teeth on a gum-coloured base that rests on your gums. It usually takes a few visits: the mouth is measured, the set is tried in, then adjusted until it sits comfortably.
My dentures hurt or keep slipping.
Gums slowly change shape over the years, so a denture that once fitted can start to rub or slip. It can often be adjusted, or given a new inner layer that fits your gums again. Denture powder can hide a poor fit for a while, but sore spots that last more than a few days should be checked.
How do I clean my dentures?
Take them out at night. Brush them gently with a soft brush and plain water or mild soap (toothpaste can scratch them). Keep them in a cup of clean water so they don’t dry out, and rinse your mouth before putting them back in.
Can I eat normally with dentures?
Yes, with practice. For the first few weeks, eat soft food cut into small pieces and chew on both sides at once. Most people get used to new dentures in a few weeks.
What should I bring to the visit?
Your list of medicines (some, such as blood thinners, matter before a tooth is taken out), any old dentures, and a family member if you’d like someone with you.
One clinic for the whole family
Bring your child, yourself and your parents to the same dentist, who will know the family’s teeth over the years.
